How credits work (and what they cost per minute)

Per ElevenLabs’ pricing FAQ, text to speech costs about 1 credit per character on V2 Multilingual models. Flash/Turbo models cost 0.5–1 credit per character via the API. Other products draw from the same pool:

ProductApproximate credit cost (vendor-stated)
Text to Speech1 credit / character
Speech to Text330 credits / minute
Eleven Music900 credits / minute
Sound Effects200 credits / generation
Voice Changer, Voice Isolator1,000 credits / minute
Dubbing2,000–10,000 credits / minute
Worked example (our estimate, not a vendor figure): a 1,500-word voiceover script is roughly 9,000 characters including spaces. At 1 credit per character that’s about 9,000 credits, which fits in the Free plan’s 10k monthly credits once. Starter’s 30k credits covers about three scripts that size a month, and Creator’s 121k covers about thirteen. Retakes and other products use the same pool.

Rollover: per the pricing page, unused paid credits roll over for up to two months (max 3× your monthly quota) while your subscription is active. Downgrading or cancelling forfeits them.
